Fonogram (LND013)

We’re very excited to present the first full-length solo release from Vicente García Landa recording as Fonogram. Vicente is an audio-visual artist and experimental musician based in Mexico City and previously recorded as one half of One Second Bridge who released an acclaimed release through City Centre Offices in 2006. As Fonogram, Landa takes the pop music foundations of One Second Bridge into a far more experimental and abstract direction.

“It is about the relationship between one's own space and interior world, and the exterior, particularly, the city. The album is very much a subjective experience, introspective, but every track is inspired by a particular place and time. Cruz del Sur is a soundtrack for a science fiction setting, inspired by Andrei Tarkovsky's films. Victory Days talks about the greater jihad, about being strong and taming one's own ego (the greater battle) even though the city can be cruel (external circumstances which are less important). Nubes (translation: clouds) is about a feeling of elation and the sky. Andrea contains a sample of a desert sound scape and is inspired by that scenery. Over Under is about the low feeling the underground can give. Ciudad Invisible, particularly, sums up this idea. It is a musical and sonic cityscape, maybe from different points of view, you can hear a bicycle, nearness and also being in the periphery... I believe in man's spiritual dimension, that the inner informs the outer.”
